
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu
Faculty of Management Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS) on Monday conferred award of excellence on Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
Presenting the award during the 7th Faculty of Management Sciences conference with the theme: “Tax Reforms, Sectoral Implications, and Future Outlook: National and International Perspective”, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Garba, described Governor Aliyu as a worthy alumni of the ivory tower.
The VC, who was presented by his Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Garba Mahuta maintained that, they are proud of the governor and many of their products who are good ambassadors of the university.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Duada Abdulsalam, said Sokoto State governor’s relationship with the faculty and conference has been long and consistent.
While stressing that the theme of the conference speaks directly to issues shaping the nation’s economic direction, Prof. Abdulsalam admitted that tax systems everywhere are being revisited, adding however that their implications touch every sector, from manufacturing to digital services to the informal economy.
“As academics and practitioners, we have a responsibility to engage these issues with depth and clarity.This conference provides a rare space where policymakers, researchers, industry players and students can sit together, reflect on evidence, and consider pathways toward a fairer and more productive tax environment”.
Delivering paper on the conference theme, the lead presenter, Alhaji Aliyara Ibrahim, said the 2025 Tax Reforms marks a transformative chapter in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.
According to him, the overhaul of existing legislation aims to modernize and simplify the country’s tax system thus enhancing revenue generation and promoting equity.
“The new legislation consolidates over a dozen existing tax laws to streamline administration, enhance compliance, broaden the tax base, and ultimately increase government revenue”.
In his message, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by District Head of Gagi Umar Jabi, said Nigeria’s problem isn’t tax reform, but rather good leadership that manages resources well to benefit everyone.
Sultan, the respected traditional cum religious leader, however assured of their continued support and prayers for leaders across the federation to succeed.
