UNICAL VC laments over decaying infrastructure, abandoned projects

Prof. Florence Obi stated this while fielding questions from journalists shortly after commissioning the multi-million naira renovated female hostel at the university's campus

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Florence Obi has lamented over the high number of Federal Government funded projects which are currently decaying and have been abandoned by previous administrations.

Obi a Professor of Education lamented that the Institution is one of the nation’s tertiary institutions in Nigeria known to be having highest number of federal government funded projects that were abandoned by past administrations.

She stated this in Calabar, while fielding questions from journalists shortly after commissioning the multi-million naira renovated female hostel projects build at the university’s campus in Calabar.

“UNICAL has a bad record of being one of the universities with a lot of abandoned projects”

“In short, the highest number of federal government funded abandoned projects” she lamented.

“We are going to change that trend. God willing, we are not going to leave any of these projects abandoned in the university, because a lot of our staff are looking for space to give in their best”. She started

Professor Obi, further, disclosed that one of her administration policy thrust is to ensure that the administration does everything within its reach to ensure that all the projects abandoned by past administrations be completed before her tenure as UNICAL Vice Chancellor elapsed.

She promised to do everything within her power to ensure that capital projects that have work currently ongoing are completed and commissioned in March next year

Among the projects undergoing rehabilitation and construction includes – the multi-million naira abandoned law faculty building, lecture pavilion 3 and 4 and several others being constructed by the TETFUND to boost quality of learning at the university.
