Real Madrid are through to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after a 2-1 win over Benfica at the Santiago Bernabeu, sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Kylian Mbappe missed the match due to a knee issue, leaving Madrid to attack without their main summer signing.
Benfica struck first in the 12th minute and briefly put the hosts under pressure. The goal forced Madrid to respond early in front of their home fans.
Aurelien Tchouameni restored parity in the 22nd minute after reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the box and finishing from close range.
The equaliser settled Madrid down before the break.
After halftime, Madrid enjoyed more possession but chances were not coming easy. Benfica stayed organised at the back and looked to hit on the break whenever space opened up.
With Mbappe out, much of the attacking responsibility fell on Vinicius Junior. He delivered in the 84th minute, finishing from inside the area to put Madrid ahead and secure progression.
After scoring, Vinicius celebrated by dancing fearlessly, brushing aside the previous criticism around his goal celebrations.
The clip spread fast on social media, with 433 captioning it: “The first time was so nice, I had to do it twice.”
Benfica pushed late for a response but could not find another breakthrough before the final whistle.
Madrid advance. Benfica exit the competition.
