Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, and Acting Governor of Borno State, Hon. Umar Usman Kadafur, joined thousands of Muslim faithful at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri to celebrate the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The Vice President and the Acting Governor performed the two congregational Rakats alongside other dignitaries, including the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Ahmed Uba, National Assembly members, Sen. MT. Monguno, and House of Representatives member, Hon. Bukar Talba.
In his Sallah message, VP Shettima felicitated with the Muslim community and people of Borno State, praying for a successful sacrifice and festivities.
He urged Nigerians to unite and pray for peace, progress and a bountiful agricultural harvest in the country.
He also commended the Acting Governor for his leadership and efforts in restoring peace to the state.
Kadafur, in his message, thanked the Vice President for his support and presence at the celebration. He also appreciated the contributions of security agencies and vigilante groups in maintaining peace in the state.
He urged the people to continue praying for peace and good governance, especially for the return of pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.
The Chief Imam of Borno, Sheikh Shettima Mamman Shettima Saleh, led the congregational prayers, charging Muslims to pray for those on holy pilgrimage and the return of peace to the state.
He appreciated the efforts of the government and security agencies in ensuring the safety of citizens and their properties.
The celebration was peaceful, with a cloudy rain shower adding to the festive atmosphere. The Acting Governor wished all Muslims a happy Sallah celebration and sacrifices, while praying for the safe return of the governor and his team from pilgrimage.
The event was attended by other dignitaries, including members of the State Executive Council, members of the State Assembly, the APC Chairman, and other political stakeholders.
