Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its robust support base, extensive national reach, and political strength to triumph in the 2027 general elections, despite some member defections.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja.
The statement was in response to remarks attributed to Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who reportedly claimed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would avoid rejoining the PDP for the 2027 race, alleging that the PDP’s core is controlled by the ruling party.
Ologunagba dismissed these comments as baseless and urged Abdullahi to focus on national issues through the ADC platform rather than targeting the PDP.
Ologunagba expressed disappointment at Abdullahi’s apparent frustration over PDP’s growing momentum ahead of 2027, suggesting he should challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead.
He emphasized that the PDP, as the leading opposition party, enjoys widespread loyalty and solidarity from Nigerians and will not engage in disputes with other opposition parties like the ADC.
Highlighting PDP’s proven track record, which he said Nigerians still cherish, Ologunagba affirmed the party’s commitment to confronting the APC on critical issues while fostering constructive national dialogue to oust the ruling party in 2027.
“Despite some defections, Nigerians—the true backbone of PDP—stand united with us. Our party retains the support, connections, and political muscle to defeat the APC,” he stated.
Ologunagba added that the PDP remains open to collaborating with like-minded individuals and groups to rescue Nigeria from APC’s grip.
He noted that the party is focused on building on its reconciliatory efforts and the success of its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, while preparing for a successful national convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan.
The PDP, he stressed, will not be swayed by attacks from other political parties.
