BIEBER
Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber, disclosed on Friday that he is postponing his tour due to a virus that has caused partial facial paralysis.
In a video posted on Instagram, Bieber said he had contracted Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which affected nerves in his ear and face.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Ramsay Hunt syndrome occurs in people who have had chickenpox and is a shingles outbreak that affects the nerve near one ear and causes one-sided paralysis and hearing loss. It’s most common in people over the age of 60.
“Hey everyone. Justin here. I wanted to update you guys on what’s been going on,” he said.
“Obviously, as you can probably see from my face, I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis.”
“As you can see, this eye is not blinking,” he continued before he winks his other eye.
“I can’t smile with this side of my face, this nostril will not move, so there is full paralysis in this side of my face.”
The 28-year-old said he was physically unable to perform his upcoming shows but was doing facial exercises and expected to recover.
It will go back to normal,” he said. “It’s just time, and we don’t know how much time that’s going to be.”
“This is pretty serious as you can see. I wish this wasn’t the case but obviously, my body is telling me I got to slow down and I hope you guys understand and I’ll be using this time to rest and relax and get back to 100% so that I can do what I was born to do.”
“But in the meantime,” he added as he tried to smile. “This isn’t it. I got to get my rest on so that I can get my face back to where it’s supposed to be,” concluded Bieber.
The video messages comes after the singer backed out of his Justice World Tour, quoting he has a ‘mysterious illness.’
This is far from the first time Bieber’s current tour has been delayed.
Originally slated to begin in March 2020, the tour was pushed back two years due to the initial COVID-19 outbreak and was once again put on hold in February when he tested positive for COVID.
The award-winning singer found
fame as a 13-year-old and went on to become a global pop phenomenon with songs like “Baby” and “Believe.”
He has two Grammy wins among 22 nominations, including a record and song of the year nods this year for “Peaches.”
