Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba Alkali for his efforts, sacrifices and doggedness in providing security to lives and property of the citizenry of the state.
He also assured the Nigerian Police that his government will continue to render all the necessary support and assistance including operational logistics to motivate the police in providing adequate security to the people of the state.
The governor, who was represented by the Borno State Commissioner of Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties, Hon. Lawan Abogu stated this on Sunday at the Nigerian Police College Maiduguri during the commissioning of new and renovated administrative Blocks, staff quarters, and other projects.
He also appreciated the sacrifices and support of the Nigerian Police officers and men in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency which had led to the relative peace being enjoyed by the people of the state much recently.
Zulum also assured that his Government will not compromise on issues of provision of security to the people which informed the collaboration of the all security agencies in the state towards restoration of peace and adequate provision of security to lives and property of the citizens of the state, while describing the IGP as a man of action, honesty, commitment and discipline.

In his address, the IGP Usman Baba Alkali warned the new police recruits in training, their instructors, teachers, tutors, serving police officers and men as well as the retired ranks and files to always show good conduct, law abiding and be disciplined in their operations.
The IGP also noted that the Nigerian Police will not compromise neither hesitate to regulate all activities of the political parties and the politicians to ensure peaceful conduct of electioneering campaigns ahead of 2023 elections.
He further called on all political parties and politicians to play to the gallery by conducting their electioneering campaigns and election procession according to the rules of the game by complying with all the security alert rules.
The IGP noted that the police colleges and academy are now open to Nigerians to apply in order to bridge the gap of matching every Nigerian with a policeman. This he said informed the recruitment of 10,000 policemen last year while presently, another 10,000 recruits will soon be posted upon the completion of their training.

The IGP assured that all necessary measures will be adopted to ensure the services and welfare of the Nigerian Police officers and men are improved alongside their operational tools and equipment while assuring continuous partnership with other security agencies in the provision of security in the state.
Earlier, the IGP commissioned the rebuilt Kaga Divisional Police Headquarters Benishiekh destroyed by Boko Haram Insurgents about 10 years ago but rebuilt by the past administration of Former Governor Kashim Shettima when the incumbent Governor Babagana Umara Zulum was the State Commissioners of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) in 2018.
While commissioning the former Divisional Police Command Headquarters, the IGP announced the upgrading of the Divisional Police Headquarters to Area Command Headquarters of the Nigerian Police Force Benishiekh.
He thanked Borno State Government for its support and assistance to the NPF in appreciation of the efforts and sacrifices of the Nigerian Police.
