Zulum tasks traditional leaders on preservation of cultural heritage

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has appealed to traditional and religious leaders to take the lead in mobilizing their subjects especially youths in preserving their norms and values been their identity.

The governor stated this on the occasion of the 2022 Bura Cultural Day organized by Marama Community Development Association which took place at Government Secondary School Marama Play Ground in Hawul LGAt of the state.

Represented by his Deputy Governor, Usman Kadafur, the governor said the 2022 Bura Cultural Day with the theme ,”Echoes of a Dying Culture: The Bura Experience “, “is apt and at the right time”.

The governor said the present administration will continue to pursue the full implementation of the ten pact agenda and ten year strategic transformation plan to bring governance and development to all part of the state.

Zulum used the opportunity to call on the people to continue to send their wards to school as education remains the bedrock of any development in any society, while assuring the people of more developmental projects before the end of administration.

The Caretaker Chairman of MCDA, Mr Samuel Bwala said the festival has over the years provided the forum for interaction, celebration and showcase of the rich cultural heritage of Bura people to the world.

The Chairman appealed to the state government to consider the rehabilitation of Yimirshika -Marama -Kidang Road, revitalisation of School of Agriculture, fencing of Marama Central Primary School and General Hospital Marama and replacement of electrical transformers among others in Marama community.

The Emir of Biu , HRH, Mai Mustapha Umar Mustapha commended the organisers of the festival and all the sons and daughters of Biu Emirate for their cooperation and understanding in maintaining and reviving their culture and traditions.

The Emir prayed God to continue to unite them towards the progress and development of their community.

The Borno State Head of service, Barr. Simon Malgwi in a paper presentation observed that the Bura culture is fast disappearing and heading towards extinction, noticeable in areas of language, traditional music and even food.

He therefore stressed that all hands must be on deck to reverse the trend.

The former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ali Abubakar Jatau enumerated some of the advantages of the festival as well the historical background, while commending all those who have been contributing in one way or the other in organizing the festival annually.

The former Federal High Court Judge, Justice Ibrahim Auta Ndahi thanked all those who attended the occasion and commended the state government for all its developmental efforts in the community.

Also in an interview, the Chairman of Pelambirni Development Association Builder , Yusuf Yohanna Balami appealed to the governor to improve Pelambirni schools and also carry out rehabilitation of the only road linking kwajafa to Pelambirni communities

Over twelve million naira was realized during the launching of the association calendar with the highest donation of five million naira from the state government and another five million naira from the deputy governor respectively.

The event was also attended by The Emirs of Biu, Shani Sheleng, representative of The Emir of Guyuk, some State House of Assembly members and Special Advisers, top governments and political party officials among others.

Highlights of the occasion include groups photographs, videos, dancing, drumming, musicals, songs, display and launching of the association Almanac or calendar.
