By PATRICK ABANG, Calabar –
Professor Stephen Ochang, a lecturer at Cross River State University of Technology and leader of Peter Obi Candidacy Movement has urged Nigerians and PDP delegates to ensure that he emerge the candidate of the party.
Addressing journalists at the Ernest Etime Bassey Press Centre on Monday, Ochang said the Peter Obi Candidacy Movement is a body of patriotic Nigerians who are deeply concerned about the current state of their country and are passionate about seeing a change in the direction that nation is facing.
“We are convinced that Nigeria needs a man who is cerebral with robust managerial ability to get her out of the woods”
According to Ochang, “a thorough and dispassionate study of the antecedents of all the candidates that have indicated interest to run for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shows that one person stands taller than all the rest. That person is Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, a former Governor of Anambra state.
“Why are we supporting Mr. Peter Obi as the person who can salvage this nation and prevent it from running aground”
“We are supporting Obi because he is mentally sharp, academically sound and has the managerial acumen for the job”
“His tenure as Governor of Anambra for 8 years witnessed unprecedented turn around in the fortunes of every facet of the state life”
“The progress made during his reign was very clear and measurable. He did cut down, very drastically, the cost of governance of the state while he was governor. Savings made from reduction in cost of governance was ploughed into the state, impacting it very positively'”
“Among those that have governed various states in Nigeria from 1999 to date, Mr. Peter Obi has proven to be the most fiscally responsible leader. He left huge sums of money in the State treasury”, he said.
Professor Ochang, however, urged delegates across the country to support his ambition for the 2023 general election.
