The President of Voice of the Voiceless, Nasir Ismail Doka, has criticized Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, over his handling of the escalating security crisis in the state.
At a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, Doka joined forces with internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Zamfara to demand action from the government.
It would be recall that the group’s efforts to attend a public hearing organized by the governor were thwarted by security personnel, highlighting the disconnect between the government and the people.
Doka criticized the hearing’s location in Abuja, suggesting it was designed to present a sanitized version of the situation.
He slammed the governor’s frequent absences from Zamfara, accusing him of neglecting his duties. Personal accounts from the displaced persons painted a stark picture of the human impact of the crisis.
“In my last briefing, I mentioned that the governor spends too much time in Abuja, disregarding the people of Zamfara. This neglect is evident in the current state of affairs.”
“There is no effective government in Zamfara. Bandits control significant parts of the state,”
“This young man here doesn’t know where his parents are. He last spoke to them days ago and received distressing news just yesterday.”
Doka, therefore, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prioritize the security and welfare of Zamfara’s citizens, urging the deployment of more troops and long-term solutions to address the root causes of banditry.
“The people of Zamfara deserve peace and stability. Our leaders have a duty to ensure we do not live in fear. The situation demands urgent and comprehensive action to bring lasting peace to our state.” He said.
The press conference was a poignant reminder of the desperation and frustration of Zamfara’s displaced persons and activists, who are calling for swift and decisive action to end the violence and restore peace to the state.
