Andyson Egbodo, President Igede Youth Council.
By JOHN ONAH, Abuja –
The Igede Youth Council, in collaboration with the Association of Lawyers from the Conflict Zone, Association of Igede Media Professionals, Igede Medical and Health Professionals Union and Igede Women’s Congress, has announced plans for a National Protest and World Press Conference in Abuja to address the ongoing crisis in Benue State.
The planned protest will be a response to the continued attacks on Ukpute Community and environs by Bonta militias, despite repeated calls for intervention.
According to the National President of the Council, Comr Andyson Iji Egbodo, who signed the announcement, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s silence and inaction have exacerbated the situation, particularly in comparison to his swift response to a similar crisis in Ukum LGA.
The Council alleges that the Governor has been overwhelmed by ethnic pressures, leading to a lack of decisive action.
Comr Egbodo stated that the protest aims to draw attention to the oppression and injustice faced by the affected communities, demand deployment of security personnel to stop further attacks, and urge the Governor to re-establish the boundary between the LGAs.
The Council is also seeking a Commission of Enquiry into the crisis.
A date for the protest will be announced soon.
It urged the stakeholders and supporters to mobilize for the success of the exercise.
