In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Mrs. Nanbam Esther Danjuma (Lot), the Project Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Plateau State, has reiterated the state’s commitment to addressing gender-based violence and promoting the rights of women and girls.
During her remarks, Mrs. Danjuma (Lot) emphasized the proactive measures being taken by the Plateau State government, led by Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in fostering gender equality and protecting vulnerable populations.
She underscored that these initiatives align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality.
“The governor has demonstrated unwavering commitment to creating an environment where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the development of our state,” Mrs. Danjuma (Lot) expressed.
In a statement issued by Mathias Shenang Yengoet, the Information Officer for SDGs Plateau State, she highlighted a range of initiatives implemented by the administration. These include enhancing legislation to hold perpetrators of violence accountable, empowering women through economic and skills development programs, and ensuring the inclusion of women in governance by appointing them to key leadership roles.
Moreover, Mrs. Danjuma (Lot) showcased the accomplishments of the Plateau State SDGs in tackling gender-based violence and fostering equality. These efforts encompass community sensitization workshops and advocacy campaigns, as well as initiatives that support access to health and education services for women and girls, especially in rural areas.
Looking to the future, the Coordinator announced that Plateau SDGs remains committed to strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations and international agencies to mobilize resources for gender-focused initiatives.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Danjuma (Lot) called upon all citizens of Plateau to come together against gender-based violence, underlining that it is a societal issue requiring collective action.
“Let us commit to creating a Plateau State where every woman and girl can live free from fear and violence, realizing their full potential in a just and equitable society,” she urged.
