Bayelsa State Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue Justice E.G. Umokoro, who was abducted by gunmen on Saturday evening.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Alonyenu, in a statement on Sunday, said the police are working with other security agencies to locate and rescue the judge unhurt.
“Guarantees are herewith given that this singular incident should not orchestrate any mistrust between the Bayelsa Public and security forces within the state,” Alonyenu said.

He clarified that the armed gunmen who abducted the judge were not policemen, as initially perceived by the public.
The police are reviewing video clips and digital footages, and have created crime mapping sketches to aid in the rescue efforts.
Governor Douye Diri has directed all security agencies to redouble their efforts to locate and rescue the judge, and deal decisively with the perpetrators.
“We call on the public’s support and understanding in this regard,” Alonyenu appealed, urging people not to obstruct or hinder ongoing measures to rescue the judge.
