Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of its mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on June 28.
The board also provided an update on its ongoing crackdown on a widespread fake admission letter syndicate.
JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said, “Of the 96,838 candidates slated for the mop-up examination, results had been released for 11,161 candidates who sat for the test.”
He urged candidates who were unable to access their results to send the text “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number they registered with.
Benjamin disclosed that an investigation led to the arrest of five ring-leaders who confessed to producing and distributing forged admission letters. The suspects are currently being prosecuted at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The syndicate’s activities implicated a total of 17,417 candidates, with 5,669 confirmed to have procured forged admission letters outrightly.
Benjamin warned that any candidate found to have engaged in or solicited help from examination or certificate fraudsters would face consequences under the Examination Malpractices Act, including possible prosecution.
He said, “The Board remains committed to upholding the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that only duly qualified candidates gain access to tertiary education in Nigeria.”
