Nigerian Senate has suspended its plenary activities until September 23.
This follows a motion tabled by Senate Leader Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele during Thursday’s session, which came after a closed-door executive meeting lasting over an hour.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, before the motion was supported by Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro (PDP-Benue), noted that the suspension marks the close of the current legislative year.
He emphasized that while plenary sessions are paused, all standing and ad hoc committees must finalize their pending assignments during the recess for review when the Senate reconvenes.
Akpabio urged senators to use the two-month break to oversee projects in their constituencies and across the nation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the senators will travel to Jos on Friday to attend the funeral of the wife of their colleague, Sen. Diket Plang. (NAN)
