Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
Following the recent symbolic flag-off ceremony of free school materials, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, is poised to kick off full-scale distribution of the items across schools in the state within the coming days.
The official flag-off, which took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Nyabusara Primary School, featured the presentation of school uniforms, iPads, shoes, books, laptops, and other instructional materials.
The state Commissioner for Education, Dr. Augusta Yahaya, revealed this during a press briefing in her office on Thursday. She urged students, pupils, and parents to remain patient as the government prepares for the comprehensive rollout of the materials, following protocols laid out by the ministry.
Her remarks came in response to widespread rumors that the exercise was a mere political stunt, and that materials displayed during the flag-off were later withdrawn without further distribution.
Dispelling the claims, Dr. Yahaya said, “The governor called on the ministry to make available the materials procured for free education for a symbolic display during the flag-off at Nyabusara Primary School last Tuesday. He selected 15 students from the secondary school and 15 pupils from the primary school. We brought 1,000 uniforms, 1,000 shoes, cartons of exercise books, cartons of iPads, and all other available items.”
According to her, the materials were returned to storage after the ceremony to ensure orderly distribution across designated schools.
“The symbolic display and flag-off was done, and the remaining items had to be returned to the store for inward distribution,” she explained.
“I am assuring all the students and parents across the state that the ministry has designed a template on how to commence the distribution of the free education materials. All we are waiting for is instructions from the governor, and we shall swing into action,” the commissioner added.
She called on residents to support Governor Kefas’s vision for free education and appreciate his administration’s commitment to investing in the future of Taraba’s children.
“We are calling on the people to key into the good initiatives of Governor Agbu to support free education in the state. We are also calling on the people to appreciate the efforts of the governor for procuring these materials to be distributed to students at no cost,” Yahaya said.
