Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas
In a rare show of political unity, major stakeholders from Taraba State’s northern senatorial district have unanimously endorsed Governor Agbu Kefas for a second term in office, ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections.
The endorsement came during a high-profile zonal stakeholders’ engagement meeting held Wednesday in Jalingo, the state capital. Leaders from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP), alongside traditional rulers and thousands of supporters, threw their weight behind Governor Kefas as their sole candidate for the next election cycle.
Despite being elected under the PDP platform in 2023 and maintaining his party affiliation, Kefas received overwhelming cross-party support—an uncommon political consensus in Nigeria’s often divided landscape.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Alhaji Aminu Jauro Hassan, chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council and state chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), praised Governor Kefas’s leadership and accomplishments over the past two years.
“Your Excellency, with your track records, we have no doubts,” Hassan declared.
“Having seen what you have done in the last two years, and also having watched your zeal for massive transformation of our dear state, we, the stakeholders, have endorsed you—this day, Wednesday, 24th September 2025—for a second term in office.”
The endorsement was met with a thunderous voice vote from both stakeholders and members of the public who gathered in large numbers for the event.
Prominent figures who backed the governor include former state governor and APC stalwart Jolly Nyame, 2023 SDP gubernatorial candidate Baido Tijos, Senator Anthony Manzo of the APC, and the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Tafida Abbas Tafida.
The endorsement signals a significant boost for Governor Kefas’s political future and may reshape the dynamics of the 2027 governorship race in Taraba State.
