Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has paid tribute to fallen members of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, offering condolences to their families while calling for improved welfare and better funding for security agencies as the country marked the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
In a statement released on Thursday, the opposition party described the occasion as a moment of solemn reflection and national gratitude for soldiers who lost their lives in active service while defending Nigeria’s sovereignty.
> “As our country marks the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, we convey our deepest condolences to the families of members of the Armed Forces who died in active service while executing their mandate of protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country.”
The PDP used the occasion to renew its long-standing call for enhanced welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces and the broader security and intelligence community, noting that improved conditions would strengthen their ability to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
> “We use this opportunity to demand improved welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces and all members of the security and intelligence community, to help them better discharge their assigned roles.”
The party also urged the Federal Government to commit more resources to national security, stressing the need for adequate funding to confront rising insecurity across the country.
> “We also urge the Federal Government to adequately fund the security agencies to effectively neutralise the agents of insecurity and restore peace and security to our country.”
Reflecting on the sacrifices made by fallen service members, the PDP said their courage and dedication remain central to Nigeria’s continued existence as a nation.
> “On a day like this, we acknowledge that they paid the supreme price for the continuous existence of our country.”
The party further appealed to all groups and individuals to refrain from actions capable of undermining national stability, warning that insecurity and unrest dishonour the memory of fallen heroes.
> “We advise all actors, whether state or non-state, not to engage in actions capable of destabilising the country.”
Concluding its message, the PDP offered prayers for the departed and pledged that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
> “In honour of those who have died to keep our country safe, we pray that their deaths may not be in vain and their labours not be forgotten.”
The statement was signed by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, and dated January 15, 2026.
