Sokoto State Executive Council has approved the purchase of six bulletproof vehicles for the office of Governor Ahmed Aliyu at a cost of N1.47 billion as part of preparations for the governor’s planned statewide tour ahead of the political season.
The approval was announced after the council meeting held at the Government House in Sokoto.
Addressing journalists, the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Bala Kokani, said the vehicles approved include three Land Cruisers, two 2025 Prado Land Cruisers and one Coaster bus.
According to Kokani, the acquisition became necessary because Governor Aliyu is expected to begin visits across different parts of the state in the coming weeks.
The commissioner, who previously represented Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, also disclosed that the council approved the purchase of two pay loaders for the Ministry of Environment at a cost of over N340.5 million.
He explained that the equipment would strengthen waste evacuation operations within Sokoto metropolis and surrounding communities.
Kokani further revealed that the council approved the procurement of six additional buses for the Sokoto State Transport Authority at a cost of about N438 million.
He, however, clarified that the buses would be funded from the agency’s internally generated revenue.
“it was out of the N500 million being generated as revenue by the agency,” he stated.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance, Engr. Muhammad Jabbi Shagari, said the council approved the renovation of the International Conference Centre in Kasarawa at the cost of N733.27 million.

“The structures to be renovated include all the hostels, halls and offices, among others. This is just as the council approved the printing of 2026 Calendars and Dairies, at the cost of N67.94million and N71.218million, respectively,” Kofar-Marke said.
