Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu
In a significant political show of support ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 244 councillors across Sokoto State have jointly purchased a N50 million nomination form for Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
The councillors, operating under the umbrella of the National Council of Councillors Forum of Nigeria, made the move on Monday, citing satisfaction with the governor’s performance and governance style.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, the Sokoto State Chairman, Hon. Nura Goronyo, said the decision was driven by what he described as tangible development and impactful leadership across the state.
According to him, councillors, as grassroots representatives closest to the people, have witnessed firsthand the administration’s projects and human capital development efforts, which influenced their unanimous decision.
“The purchase of this form is a manifestation of our appreciation with the good works of the government of the day. We are very pleased with the programmes, initiatives and policies of the Ahmed Aliyu led administration.”
He further emphasized the widespread approval of the governor’s performance among residents.
“And I can tell you for certainty that no one in Sokoto today that is not happy with the government except those that does not like good things or non objective opposition figures,” Goronyo maintained.
Commenting on other aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC), the forum chairman expressed confidence in the party’s leadership pool, noting that they are comfortable with the credentials of all candidates.
Responding to the development, the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Hon. Haruna Sarkin Gobir Ajiya, described the gesture as a clear endorsement of Governor Aliyu’s leadership.
He noted that the collective action of the councillors reflects the mood across the state and underscores public confidence in the administration.
“As those closer to the masses, we are convinced that you have all witness the good works in your respective areas just as you have said. And we are pleased to hear such testimonies from you. And I can assure that, the governor will continue to do more when reelected come 2027.”
