
Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA) has commenced the accreditation process for 240 Primary Healthcare facilities across the state as part of efforts to strengthen the delivery of quality healthcare services under the social health insurance scheme.
Addressing officials of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Agency (AKSHIA) before the commencement of the statewide assessment exercise, the Executive Secretary of AKSHIA, Igbemi Arthur Igbemi, charged the accreditation team to carry out the assignment with diligence, transparency, and professionalism.
Igbemi said the accreditation exercise is a vital component of the agency’s commitment to ensuring that enrollees of the state health insurance scheme have access to quality, affordable, and efficient healthcare services in all parts of Akwa Ibom State.
He explained that the exercise would help identify healthcare facilities that meet the required standards for service delivery under the scheme.
According to him, Governor Umo Eno remains committed to expanding healthcare access for residents through the strengthening of the social health insurance programme. He noted that accrediting more facilities would increase access points for beneficiaries and improve healthcare coverage, especially in rural and underserved communities.
Speaking during the briefing, Victor Edet representative from NHIA who is part of the accreditation team, assured the agency that the exercise would be conducted in line with established guidelines and best practices.
He emphasised the importance of maintaining quality standards in healthcare delivery and pledged the team’s commitment to a credible and thorough assessment process.
Also speaking, Nkanta Ubong representative from NHIA Uyo commended AKSHIA for its continuous efforts towards improving healthcare access in the state. He assured the Executive Secretary that the NHIA team would work collaboratively with AKSHIA to ensure a successful accreditation exercise across the selected facilities.
The accreditation team is expected to visit primary healthcare facilities in different local government areas of the state to evaluate infrastructure, manpower, equipment, record-keeping systems, sanitation, and overall capacity to provide quality healthcare services to enrollees.
The exercise forms part of AKSHIA’s broader vision of achieving universal health coverage and ensuring that residents of Akwa Ibom State continue to benefit from accessible and affordable healthcare services under the social health insurance scheme.
