Bloodbath was averted Wednesday at T.A Gardens Estate, Warewa, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun state, near Lagos, following violent attack on residents who were protesting one month of power outage.
The upscale estate owned by former CEO of GTBank, Tayo Aderinokun, according to residents, has been without electricity for over one month.
The residents alleged that the Facility Management company of the estate, Canistel Limited, was fully aware of the blackout and absence of other utilities but did nothing and even frustrated efforts by some residents to seek alternative power supply.
A peaceful protest by the residents to draw attention to their plight was allegedly disrupted by the estate management who brought thugs to attack the residents.
Gunshots were heard as the armed thugs hired by the estate management attacked the residents leading to chaos in the otherwise quiet neighbourhood.
Residents who voiced their anger said they now feel unsafe in a place they call home. They urged the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, to intervene on the matter to avert a major disaster, alleging that the thugs “threatened to return” after they were repelled by the residents.
The thugs who came with charms and other dangerous weapons were seen in viral video assaulting a police officer and other residents of the estate who dared to confront them at the gate.
“We are calling on the Ogun state police command to intervene on this matter. We now live in fear and who knows what next the estate management would do,” another resident said.
TA Gardens estate was developed by Vitalvox and managed by Canistel Limited.
It was gathered that following the disruption of water and power services, residents opted to bring in their own generators and water tankers but the facility management refused.
