NYSC DG commends Abia for its unalloyed support

Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu has lauded the Abia State Government government for the immense support it has been rendering to the Scheme in the State.

He particularly expressed appreciation for the renovation work that had been carried out on the Orientation Camp; provision of a new Secretariat complex in order to enhance the operations of the NYSC and an upward review of the allowance of Corps Members.

The DG stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti at Umunu, Umuehim Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

General Nafiu said that Abia was considered as a peaceful and friendly State because the population of female Corps Members was more than that of the males. He further disclosed that it was one of the few states that had Corps Members serving in every local government area.

He then appealed for the implementation of the recently reviewed allowance of the Corps Members and also for the second phase of the renovation of the Camp.

In his remarks, Governor Otti congratulated General Nafiu on his new assignment as the NYSC Director General.

He pointed out that his displeasure at deplorable state of facilities on the Orientation Camp during his visit in year 2023 informed his decision to approve the overhauling of the facilities.

He stated further that phase one of the renovation work had been completed, and he had directed that phase two of the renovation should commence.

Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the 8,890 Corps Members that were serving in the State and further requested for the deployment of more to the State.

He emphasized that Abia was not just home to Corps Members but also for everyone else who came to the State. A typical example of this is the Head of Service, Mr Benson Ojeikere who came to Abia as a Corps Member and was given automatic employment into the civil service for distinguishing himself during his service year.
