Abia State Governor, Alex Otti
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced plans to recruit 4,000 additional teachers to bolster the state’s education sector.
This move is aimed at strengthening the state’s teaching workforce, particularly in primary and secondary schools.
The governor made this disclosure during the June edition of his media chat, “Gov. Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” held at the Government House in Umuahia.
According to Otti, the recruitment of 4,000 more teachers will bring the total number of new teachers in the state’s primary and secondary schools to 9,394.
“We expect that the portal will be opened and applications will be received,”* Otti said, assuring that the next set of recruitment will happen immediately after the ongoing orientation for the first set of 5,394 teachers.
The governor emphasized the need to prepare and ensure quality teachers for primary and secondary schools across the state, given the massive enrollment witnessed since the introduction of free and compulsory education.
“In addition to the renovation, we are converting 20 schools into smart schools and work is already ongoing,”* he added.
Otti also highlighted his administration’s commitment to improving the healthcare sector, with the ongoing renovation of 200 primary healthcare centers across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
“The kind of equipment you are expecting to see in developed countries are already in Abia, and we are not opening them without equipping them properly,” he assured.
The governor urged residents to join hands with his administration in building a New Abia, highlighting some of the administration’s achievements in security, road infrastructure, sanitation, and other sectors.
