Senator Ireti Kingibe
African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, Ireti Kingibe, has been suspended from the party.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it was unaware of any decision to suspend the lawmaker and urged the public to disregard the circulating claims.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is unaware of any suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, the distinguished Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory,” Abdullahi said.
According to the party, any disciplinary action against its members follows clearly established constitutional procedures and cannot be carried out through unofficial channels.
“As a law-abiding political party, the ADC has clear constitutional channels and procedures for addressing any allegations involving its members.
“Such matters are handled through established internal mechanisms, not through press statements,” the statement read.
The party further appealed to journalists and members of the public to treat the reports with caution.
“We therefore urge the public and the media to disregard the reports suggesting that Senator Ireti Kingibe has been suspended by the party, as they are false and misleading,” Abdullahi added.
*Allegations Surface From FCT Chapter*
The clarification from the party’s national leadership follows a separate statement attributed to Nwigbo Chukwudi Samuel, Publicity Secretary of the ADC in the FCT, who accused the senator of actions he described as detrimental to the party’s interests.
In the statement titled “ _The Many Sins of Distinguished Senator Ireti and Why Her Suspension Is Justifiable,”_ Samuel alleged that the lawmaker withheld funds meant for campaign activities during the recent Area Council elections.
He also claimed that the senator allegedly failed to support party executives financially during the election period and was accused of retrieving a party office previously provided to the FCT chapter.
Samuel further alleged that Kingibe issued an internal memo dated March 9, 2026, announcing the suspension of party activities in the FCT, a move he argued had no constitutional backing.
Despite the allegations, the ADC’s national leadership maintained that no official disciplinary action has been taken against the senator and insisted that any such matters would be handled through the party’s formal structures.
The development comes amid growing political tension within the party’s FCT chapter as preparations intensify for upcoming electoral contests.
