Super Eagles of Nigeria
Super Eagles stars Paul Onuachu and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are brimming with confidence ahead of Nigeria’s pivotal AFCON 2025 Group C clash against Tunisia on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the match at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, striker Onuachu expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances.
“Nigeria is a great football country. Tunisia are strong too, but we have the players and squad to take our game to the next level,” he said.
Onuachu emphasized that the team arrived in Morocco with a winning mindset and a focus on steady progress.
“We came here believing we can win AFCON. There are many strong teams, so we stay focused and approach every game step by step,” he added.
Midfielder Dele-Bashiru echoed his teammate’s sentiment, highlighting the motivation that comes simply from being at Africa’s premier tournament.
“Just being at AFCON is a huge motivation.
“Every match matters, and we want to give everything to get the win,” he said.
The 23-year-old playmaker described Saturday’s clash against Tunisia as critical to Nigeria’s ambition of topping Group C. “It is an important game for us. If we want to top the group, we must do everything possible to get the job done,” Dele-Bashiru stressed.
He also underlined his versatility and commitment to the team, saying, “I have played in many positions in my career. Wherever the coach wants me, I will play and try my best to help the team win.”
Discipline and respect for opponents remain central to Nigeria’s approach. “We must treat every game the same way, stay focused, respect our opponents, and follow the coach’s plan,” Dele-Bashiru added.
Both teams enter the fixture unbeaten after winning their opening games—Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2–1, while Tunisia overcame Uganda 3–1. Though Nigeria holds a slight historical edge over Tunisia in AFCON encounters, the Carthage Eagles secured a narrow victory in their most recent meeting in 2021.
Onuachu and Dele-Bashiru insisted that past results are irrelevant, with the outcome to be decided by focus, discipline, and execution on the pitch.
Kick-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday, promising a thrilling West Africa–North Africa showdown.
