SGF George Akume
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as people-oriented projects aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.
Senator Akume gave the commendation on Friday in Wannune, headquarters of Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, during the Mbakor Day celebration, where distinguished sons and daughters of the community were honoured for their contributions to society.
The SGF also praised the Mbakor Development Association for its continued prayers and for recognising him alongside other notable indigenes of the community. He urged the people of Mbakor to embrace unity, stressing that cohesion remains vital to the community’s overall development.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Chris Tarka, Senator Akume said President Tinubu is deeply committed to the rapid development of the country.
He appealed to Nigerians, particularly the people of Benue State, to give the President their unwavering support to enable him to deliver more dividends of democracy.
“With sustained support, the President will record even greater successes for the nation and for Benue State in particular,” Akume said.
He expressed gratitude to his home community for finding him worthy of the honour, noting that the recognition would motivate him to do more in advancing the interests of Mbakor and its people.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Pius Akuta, thanked the community for honouring the SGF and other award recipients.
He assured that such recognition would inspire the honourees to serve the community and society at large with renewed commitment.
Also speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council called on the Mbakor community and the people of Benue State to support the Tinubu-led Federal Government, noting that such support would enable citizens to fully benefit from government programmes and policies.
Earlier, the President General of the Mbakor Development Association, Joseph Atese Aguji, appealed for unity among community members, saying peace and progress could only thrive where there is togetherness.
He assured that with unity, no challenge would be insurmountable for the community.
Aguji outlined key development priorities of the association, including the completion of the perimeter fence at the community-owned secondary school, the acquisition of a bus, and the establishment of empowerment schemes for youths, women, widows and other vulnerable persons.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Dr. Gbile Agundu, urged sustained unity among Mbakor people, emphasizing that peace remains the foundation for meaningful development.
Among those honoured posthumously alongside the SGF were late Senator J.S. Tarka, late Baver Zeremo, late Barrister Gbihi Vembe, late Ambassador Denis Ukume, late Colonel John Nenger, and late HRH Joseph Aleva Tiah, among others.
Other award recipients included former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benue State, Rev. Dr. Augustine Akpen Leva; Dr. John Alagh; Indyerkaa Hule; Terna Abbo; Professor Mrs. Magdalene Aboh; Dr. Tyover Ashinya Dajoh; Akaater Kasar; and Mr. Terna Ahua, among others.
