In a strategic move to enhance security, Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the establishment of two new Area Commands and the upgrade of five police stations to divisions in Benue State.
The announcement, made by Police Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet on Tuesday, aims to address security challenges in troubled Local Government Areas.
The new Daudu Area Command will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, while the Naka Area Command will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions. The upgraded divisions include Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan.
This restructuring targets geographical gaps, ensuring faster response to distress calls and better conflict resolution, particularly between farmers and herders.
Commissioner of Police, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, expressed gratitude to the Inspector General for his unwavering support, emphasizing that these changes will tackle the state’s complex security challenges.
He also commended Governor Hyacinth Iormen Alia for his contributions to securing lives and property in Benue State.
He added that the command is confident that these adjustments will strengthen policing efforts across the state’s diverse and challenging terrains, fostering peace and safety for all residents.
