By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
The Director General, Benue Public Service Institute, Professor Terkura Tarnande, has assured that the Institute would collaborate with Industrial Training Fund (ITF) to achieve its mandate for the benefit of the Benue people and beyond.
Speaking on Wednesday during a courtesy call by the management of ITF from the Area office Makurdi, Professor Tarnande, said Governor Hyacinth Alia’s desire for the establishment of the Institute would be achieved with the collaboration of ITF, an agency of the federal government which is equally into training.
Professor Tarnande, who acknowledged the foresight of the governor in the establishment of the Institute, explained that the governor foresaw that the Institute would benefit the state more than sending the civil and public servants as well as the traditional rulers among others for training outside the state, adding, that the desire of the management of the Institute was not to disappoint the Governor.
The DG noted that ITF was visiting the Institute at the right time, revealing that the Institute had held a training for Government House staff and efforts were on to hold trainings for local government elected officials as well as traditional rulers to equip them for optimal performance.
In her speech, the ITF Area Manager, Dr. Mrs Sarah Adue informed the management of the Institute that the Fund was into human capital development and that they have been into capacity training for the past fifty years, adding, that they conduct training in all fields.
The Area Manager disclosed that ITF was training two million (2,000,000) artisans in what they refer to as super skill revealing that they had to go to the streets to gather artisans for training as according to her the training was aimed at making them better citizens both for themselves and the society.
In their separate comments, the Director of Programmes, Mr. Cletus Shimave, the Director Research and Publication, Dr. Mark Nyitse and the Director Administration and Finance Mrs. Cecilia Ohemu all from the Institute, expressed their belief that the Institute would gain much from the collaboration with ITF, particularly in the area of resource persons.
During the occasion, the ITF Area Manager presented proposal for the skills programme to the DG while the DG on his part presented flyers containing the mission and vision of the Institute to the Area Manager.
