COAS introduces special scholarship awards for indigent students

As part of Nigerian Army commitment to non kinetic approach to counter insurgency and restoration of peace in consolidating civil military relations , the Office of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Nigerian Army Headquarters Abuja has introduced a special scholarship award to young students to study in tertiary institution across the 36 states of the federation and FCT Abuja.
In Borno State, one Miss Nana Fatima Bukar Bolori from Maiduguri community was awarded scholarship to study Sharia Law at the University of Maiduguri for 5 years where each academic year/session, the beneficiary is entitle to N500,000 totalling N2.5 million to carry out her academics without any hindrance or financial handicap.
Presenting the scholarship award at the theater command headquarters, Maimalari cantonment, Maiduguri on Thursday, the Theater Commander, Northeast Operation Hadin kai, JTF North East Headquarters , Major General Wahidi Shaibu said:
“it is often said education is cornerstone of any progressive society. As part of the Nigerian Army non kinetic operation initiatives . Miss Nana Fatima has been selected as the recipient of the COAS Special scholarship award to indigent students to foster total peace in the Northeast.and wins the hearts and minds, especially those who represent the future of country”.
“The Nigerian Army through this scholarship program is an indication that not only to protect territorial integrity of the nation . Today Miss Bolori has been offered scholarship to study Sharia law at the University of Maiduguri.
“A field of study which is not only relevant to our cultural heritage, but also will foster understanding, peace and justice in our society”, Shaibu said.
Wahidi further said ” this scholarship will provide a financial support of N500,000 each per academic session for a total of 5 years. This is designed to ensuring that she focuses entirely on her studies without financial constraint “.
” This scholarship will afford, Miss Nana the opportunity to not only study but become an agent of change . The Nigerian Army under the missionary of leadership of the COAS is committed to ensuring financial constraint didn’t hindered the opportunity of indigent students. said
“This scholarship is one of the many initiatives of the COAS aimed at ensuring financial constraint didn’t hindered the education opportunity of indulgent student across the various theater of operations across the country”, Shaibu said.
The Theater Commander, however, urged Miss Nana to remain focus, dedicated and make best use of the opportunity, stressing that the Nigerian Army is proud of her and expect the best from her.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taured Lagbaja for his missionary initiative and non kinetic approach in restoring peace is restored back to the Northeast and the country at large.
Earlier in his remarks, the Theater Command Headquarters, Civil Military Cooperation, Lt col. I Ekon, said the COAS Special Scholarship award was aimed at fostering civil military cooperation and non kinetic approach to counter insurgency fight in the theater..
“This scholarship is part of commitment of the the Nigerian Army at ensuring that education is not just a right but a tool of transformation”, Ekon said
In her votes of thanks, Miss Bukar Nana Fatima thanked the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army for providing her the opportunity to foster her education.
” I want to use this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army for the opportunity, I promise not to let you down, I would work hard to excel in my studies and make you proud”, Nana said.
