Borno Govt. reiterates plan to close IDP camps in Maiduguri by December

Borno State Deputy Governor, Hon Umar Kadafur on Friday chaired the High Level Task Force (HLTF) meeting with Humanitarian and Development partner on the returning of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes as Governor Babagana Zulum planned to close all IDPs camps within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.

The High Level Task Force (HLTF) meeting was held at the Council chamber of the Deputy Governor’s office within the Government House, Maiduguri.

Hon. Kadafur chaired the High Level Task Force (HLTF) meeting with Humanitarian and Development partner on the returning of IDPs to their ancestral homes.

Kadafur while making his remarks commended the Organization Coordinating Humanitarian Activities (OCHA) for assisting the state government and other partners such as CCCM sector, Protection sector and also the OCHA for transfer of knowledge to government staff on capacity building in Campus Decommissioning Process.

The deputy governor also called on the humanitarian and development partners to assist in wherever they can because this is a collective responsibility to ensure people have a better life away from IDP camps in Borno.

He further directed the meeting with OCHA, UNDP and other partners for communication, information sharing and Level of preparation on the returning of IDPs in a dignified manner and ways of sustainable support to the returnees.

The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (MRRR) Engr Mustapha Gubio while making presentations on the last action points of the HLTF meeting said out of the last IDP camps proposed for closure, MOGOLIS IDP CAMP was moved to Auno and Damasak town with total number of 4,290 individuals, NYSC IDP CAMP was also moved to AUNO and KONDUGA town with total number of 15,102 individuals while in FARM CENTER IDP CAMP 25,086.
