COAS charges officers, troops on competence, assures enhanced welfare, reward for excellence

COAS stated this during weekend at the send off buffet dinner organized by the Nigeria Army in appreciation of the services rendered by 8 retired officers.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt General Umar Farouk Yahaya has charged officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to always discharge their duties and responsibilities with all seriousness, commitment, determination and professionalism in protecting the integrity of the country and ensuring peace and stability.

He also urged them to pursue their rules of engagement diligently and competently while disclosing that there is an ongoing process to re-engage most qualified and competent military personnel who were discharged or retired from service to complement the efforts of troops at the battlefield fighting war to restore peace in the North East and country at large.

COAS stated this weekend at the send off buffet dinner which was organized by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, NA Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Major General Wahidi Shaibu, in appreciation of the services rendered by 8 retired officers from the Nigerian Army (NA).

Gen. Yahaya further appealed to all the retired military personnel not to rest on their oars, but to continue to support directly or indirectly the ongoing fight against Boko Haram insurgency and banditry.

The COAS, who was represented by the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North East ‘Operation HADIN KAI’, Maj Gen Chris G. Musa, further charged the retired officers to take advantage of the various welfare scheme initiated by the Nigeria Army.

He also pledged to continue to support and encourage officers and soldiers to discharge their duties effectively in a professional manner at the war front by providing them with more equipments and welfare.

The Special Guest of Honour, Major General Bulama Biu (rtd) could not hide his feelings and excitement while passing encomiums on the Theater Commander, Maj. Gen. Chris G. Musa, GOC 7 Div NA Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Wahidi Shaibu, other security agencies and the troops for their sacrifices, bravery and support in restoration of peace in the state and region.

He also charged the officers and soldiers to continue with the good work they have started while paying tribute to the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price while serving their fatherland.

Gen. Biu enjoined the commanders, officers and troops to discharge their responsibilities diligently while appreciating COAS for his leadership style and improvement in the welfare package of officers and soldiers of the NA , both serving and retired.

He commended the initiatives of the COAS towards uplifting the capacity and strength of the Nigerian Army especially in the area of welfare and restoration of peace in the region and other parts of the country.

He also charged the retirees to shun all attitudes that will jeopardize the integrity of the Nigerian Army while mingling with their host communities.

The retired officers that was sent off included – Col. Yakubu Hassan, Col Mohammed Akilu, Lt. Col. EA Nwachukwu, Lt. Col. A Bello, Major Joseph Danladi, Capt. Ubang Usoro, Capt. OA Akunyeme and Lt. Daniel Rumu, all retired.
