Customs beat Police Machine 4-1 to win Ogun SWAN competition

A team of football players representing the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Sunday in Abeokuta defeated their Police Machine counterparts 4-1.

The victory helped them to win the second edition of the Ogun SWAN Security and Safety Cup competition, played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Customs side scored in the opening minute through Ishola Ogunlade, while Francis Owodi extended the lead in the 16th minute.

Police Machine reduced the margin four minutes before the first half ended, through Amos Robert.

Owodi restored their two-goal advantage in the 54th minute, while Abdulkadir Yohanna extended the lead in the 60th minute.

The Chief Coach of the victorious team, Wunti Mohammed, attributed the success to the understanding among the players.

“They have been playing together as a team in the third division of the National League in the country,” he said.

The coach then urged other security agencies to encourage their young talented officers to engage in sports activities such as football.

”This will enable them to build formidable teams for the competition,” he said.

Mohammed commended Ogun chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) for organising the competition, describing the competition powered by LADO Group and other sponsors as perfect.

Earlier, in the losers final match, 2021 champions Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) thrashed Ogun’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) 5-0 to win a cash prize of N100,000.

NAN reports that Police Machine received a cash prize of N150,000, while new champions Customs smiled home with the gold medals and a cash prize of N250,000.
