President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori
All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders as the party’s sole flagbearers for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
This unanimous decision came during the party’s inaugural Stakeholders Meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Sunday. A motion supporting the endorsement was moved by Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, and seconded by former State Assembly Speaker, Victor Ochei.
Stakeholders at the meeting also passed a vote of confidence on both Tinubu and Oborevwori, applauding their efforts in driving national and state-level reforms aimed at economic restructuring and sustainable development.
State APC Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, led the party faithful in commending President Tinubu’s policies—despite the initial discomfort felt by citizens—as necessary steps to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
While many notable political figures attended the meeting, including senators from all three senatorial districts—Ned Nwoko (Delta North), Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), and Joel Onowakpo (Delta South)—former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, and a few others were conspicuously absent.
Also present were former senators Peter Nwoboshi and James Manager; members of the House of Representatives; APC stalwart Olorogun O’tega Emerhor; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor; and women leaders across the state.
Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa praised the party’s unity and foresight, describing the wholesale move of state structures to the APC as a bold and strategic shift.
“On April 28, 2025, when Gov. Oborevwori led us all into the APC, it was a defining moment,” Okowa stated. “Today, we understand the significance of that decision.”
He called on the entire state to back Tinubu and Oborevwori, not just to secure victory, but to make a powerful electoral statement with a massive turnout in Delta’s favour.
According to Okowa, Oborevwori’s performance so far has earned the party’s full backing. He also lauded Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as “tough but timely” and essential for long-term recovery.
“Though things seem tough now, the results are beginning to resonate with more Nigerians,” he added.
Before moving the motion, Minister Festus Keyamo highlighted the nationwide impact of Tinubu’s economic policies. He cited recent commendations from global figures like Prof. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and pointed to significant fiscal gains following the removal of fuel subsidies.
“States now have more funds for development,” Keyamo explained. “President Tinubu’s support for Delta has unlocked key infrastructure projects across the state.”
He noted that among several recent federal approvals, $1 billion has been earmarked to revive the Warri and Calabar ports, while an additional $500 million is directed toward upgrades at the Lagos airport.
Governor Oborevwori, in his response, expressed gratitude for the endorsement, pledging continued loyalty to the APC and further infrastructural development across Delta.
He described Tinubu as “a leader who rewards loyalty” and urged party members to embrace the three ‘Rs’ in politics: “Respect, Recognition, and Reliance.”
According to the governor, the state is reaping the benefits of Tinubu’s reforms, which have boosted financial inflows.
“We are financially stable,” Oborevwori said. “We pay 40% mobilisation for every awarded contract. On Tuesday, we’ll break ground for the long-awaited N75 billion Sapele Road project.”
He also announced approval for major new flyovers—one at Uromi Junction (N59 billion) and another in Ughelli-Otowhodo (N39 billion)—made possible, he said, by the improved fiscal space under the current administration.
“Delta stands to gain more by rallying behind the APC in 2027,” the governor concluded.
