Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has returned to the Kaduna State High Court as his protracted legal battle with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) intensifies.
El-Rufai, who was earlier arraigned on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering, reappeared before the court after spending over a month in detention.
The case is being presided over by Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, who had previously fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including the former governor’s bail request.
However, El-Rufai was granted temporary release on compassionate grounds on March 27, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.
At Tuesday’s proceedings, the former governor was again arraigned alongside one Amadu Sule on fresh allegations, including abuse of office, fraud, and intent to commit fraud.
The ICPC is expected to continue proceedings at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where arguments on his bail application are also anticipated.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress has maintained its stance, dismissing the allegations against the former governor.
Further details are expected as the case unfolds.
