‘Election fraud’: Aspirant petitions APC over Nasarawa West Senatorial results

A senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Labaran Magaji has petitioned the result of the senatorial election held on the 4th June, 2022, in which the Returning Officer declared Mr. Tukur Shehu as the winner of the election.

Bar. Magaji, who is the Matawale of Toto and a Federal Prosecutor that specialized in criminal prosecution had sought the permission of the party to contest for Senatorial election.

The National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdulahi Adamu, had at different fora described Magaji as his potential successor but allegations had it that some Emir’s who had issues and cases with Magaji due to his hard stand on matters of public concerns went beyond borders through telephone calls to doctored the delegates list so that it does not favour Magaji.

But the learned barrister after a tough battle for many days which led to the cancellation of the primary election for three times finally participated in the election.

It was alleged that only two local government list: Nasarawa and Keffi list was doctored in favour of the Emir’s candidate, Mr. Tukur.

The Senatorial hopeful, however, petitioned the results of the election, citing reasons of changing the original delegates list and pleaded with the National Secretariat of APC to correct the anomalies.

Part of the petition, according to the aspirant, is an alleged viral telephone conversation between the Emir of Lafia, Chindu Yamusa and APC chieftains, were he accused them of fraudulently forging delegates list for Keffi and Nasarawa Local Governments in order to pave way them to rigged the election in favour of Mr. Tukur.

It will be recalled that at the end of the election, Mr. Tukur Shehu was purported to have scored 179 votes while Magaji was said to have scored 114 votes..

It is also alleged that during the primary election for Nasarawa State Houses of Assembly and that of the Federal House of Representative, two conflicting g doctored lists were used to achieve the aims of the suspected persons.
