No fewer than four hundred and fifty thatch and leather tents were destroyed by fire outbreak at Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) designated IDPs Camp in Mafa LGA of Borno State.
The fire outbreak also destroyed the IDPs properties including foodstuffs and other valuable items worth millions of naira.
It was gathered that the fire started around 3:40 pm in the afternoon and the community immediately mobilize security agents who successfully assisted in putting off the fire.
A statement issued on Thursday by the information Unit of Mafa Local Government Council, said no life was lost or injured during the fire disaster.
According to the statement, The Chairman of Mafa LGC, Abatcha Kawu, has sympathized with the victims and appealed to them to consider what happened to them as an act of God while assuring them that the LGC will assist them.
The chairman also promised to report the incident to Govenror Babagana Zulum for immediate intervention.
Meanwhile, the Borno State House of Assembly (BOSHA) member representing Mafa LGC State Constituency, Hon. Baba Ali Modu expressed shock and deep sadness over the fire disaster.
The House member also expressed his dismay on the incessant fire disaster recently being experienced in most of the IDPs Camps in the Borno Central and Borno North Senatorial District.
He appealed to the IDPs Camps management to be more vigilant and set up a committee that would continue to sensitize the people on the safe use and consequences of careless use of fire during the winter period.
