FRSC deploys 1, 638 personnel for Easter patrol in Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, says it has deployed 1, 638 personnel for special patrol in the state during the Easter celebration.

Sector Commander in the state, Mr Ahmed Umar,disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Umar explained that the personnel included regular and special marshals.

He said that the would pay special attention to key highways including Lagos – Ibadan; Sagamu – Ijebu Ode; Sagamu – Mosinmi –  Ikorodu;  Abeokuta – Sagamu; Abeokuta – Ibadan; Abeokuta – Ifo – Sango – Ota – Lagos  corridors as well as  Ota – Idiroko Road.

He explained that the special patrol would focus on speeding, dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, lane indiscipline, use of cell phone while driving, seat belt violation and overloading.

He listed others to include, tyre violation (expired/substandard) as well as speed limiting device violation, passengers manifest violation by commercial vehicles and use of drugs and intoxicating alcoholic beverages while driving.

He added that the command had provided 33 patrol vehicles, eight  advanced life support ambulances, 12 patrol motorbikes and  two heavy duty tow trucks to ensure desired impact on the entire stretch of highways across the state.

“Traffic rest areas have also been established at Mowe, Sagamu, Ogere, Ogunmakin and Ijebu – Ode where tired travellers could briefly rest before continuing their journey.

“The command has also embarked on aggressive motor parks public enlightenment campaigns across the state,” he said.

Umar advised motorists traveling during the period to be more careful, plan their journey properly and have their vehicles serviced.

He urged them to pay special attention to construction areas, where overtaking was prohibited and maximum speed pegged at 50km per hour, especially at construction zones where traffic was diverted.

The sector commander warned that any motorist caught  flouting traffic rules during the special patrol would be prosecuted.

He said that the Easter special  patrol would end on April 7. (NAN)
