The Chairman of the Nigerian Football Association Cross River State Chapter, Apostle Essien Ayi has said that this year’s Governor’s Cup Competition is billed to kick off on Saturday November 25, 2023 at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

The annual football fiesta which will be the first under the Administration of Governor Bassey Otu, will be hosted in six centers across the three senatorial districts of the State.

Addressing newsmen in Calabar, Ayi, said the competition is expected to feature twenty four teams, eighteen from council areas and six from private clubs.

He said the competition will be played in Calabar, Ugep, Ikom, and Yala centres.

The FA chairman maintained that the Governor’s Cup, which serves as a unifying factor, will also be used to discover raw talents for the State teams.

According to him, FA is working in close collaboration with the Commissioner for Sports Development and Special Adviser to the Governor on General Duties and other sport stakeholders, to guarantee a successful Competition.

To herald the competition kick off, the Apostle Ayi said there will be a float on Friday around the Calabar Metropolis to sensitize the public, during which the trophy will be unveiled by the Commissioner for Sports Development at the U. J. Esuene Stadium.

He added that the final competition will be played under floodlights with the Governor Bassey Otu as Special Guest of Honour.

He sued for media partnership towards massive coverage and publicity for the competition.
