The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq on Thursday pledged to provide adequate support and continuous interventions for the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in order to make them more effective in the discharge of their duties.
The minister gave the pledge during the handing over of office furnitures, equipment and fittings to the Nigeria Police Force Borno State Command, which was held at the premises of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Headquarters Maiduguri,

The minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Nasiru Sani Gwarzo further noted that the ministry in collaboration with the NEDC have been supporting many sectors of the society in the region as part of the post insurgency rebuilding and development plans.
She noted that the interventions are enormous and the ministry will not hesitate on its mandate in ensuring adequate provision of security and restoration peace in the region, especially, Borno State, the epic center of Boko Haram insurgency.

The Minister also pledged to meet with the IGP to discuss extensively in the area of needs of the NPF so as to enhance their operations.
She further appreciated the cordial working relationship existing between the NPF, NEDC and the humanitarian ministry.
Earlier, the Managing Director of the NEDC, Alhaji Mihammed Goni Alkali, said the commission has rebuilt Garkida police station and barrack which were destroyed by the Boko Haram fighters, which is now ready for commissioning.
Alhaji Goni also noted that Konduga and Bama Police stations and barracks were under consideration for total renovation.
He also stressed that the commission has a strong believe in its security mandate to provide interventions and other supports to the security agencies in order to enhance their security operations and restore peace in the society.

In his remark, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, appreciated the donation made to the NPF by the NEDC and assured the proper utilization of the equipment.
The IGP, who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Zanna Ibrahim, pledged to strengthen the continuous partnership with the NEDC, the humanitarian ministry as well as other security stakeholders.
The police boss, however, requested for more interventions from the NEDC, particularly in the provision of operational vehicles, computers, communication gadgets, air conditioners among others.
