A foremost Humanitarian and Development Non-Governmental Organisation, Ior Gboko Foundation (IGF) has dissociated itself from the planned nationwide protests scheduled to hold from 1st – 10th August 2024.
In a press release by its President, Dr Jimmy Ajim, the Foundation acknowledged the Constitutional Rights of Nigerians to protest but cautioned that history has taught us that such protests promoted by faceless individuals have the tendency to become uncontrollable and hijacked by criminals and miscreants with attendant unpleasant consequences.
Dr. Ajim acknowledged the biting and grave economic situation in the country but urged Nigerians especially the youth to be patient with the Tinubu administration that is barely a year old and has shown the political will to confront frontally and holistically, the challenges of the country.
The IGF president advised Gboko residents to hearken to the calls by the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume for peace and assured them that Government will look into their grievances and address them amicably.
“To match words with action, the Federal and State Governments have been distributing palliatives to various Local Governments across the country to cushion the immediate impacts. Better still, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed into law today, the Minimum Wage of N70,000 to workers in Nigeria”, he said.
