Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
Contrary to the position of some Kwande people that the intermediate group should produce Governor for 2027 general election, the Kwande stakeholders have endorsed Governor Hyacinth Alia for 2027 gubernatorial election.
Speaking on Monday during a press briefing in Makurdi, the group whose speech was presented by Rt. Hon John Moughsha, said Kwande people were impressed with the development efforts of the governor and he should complete eight years before Kwande would come in by 2031.
The group expressed disappointment as to why some respected elders including Atsaga Anemba and Vincent Uji for endorsing Kwande as the ones to produce governor by 2027.
“They are qualified to speak for Kwande but on this issue it was misrepresentation”.
The spokesman emphasized that the respected elders were not speaking the minds of the Kwande people but simply for their narrowed political interest and urged the Kwande people to remain focused and support Governor Alia to continue till 2031.
“Any endorsement of Kwande son or daughter for 2027 governorship election in Benue State is null and void and of no consequence.”
Moughsha noted with emphasis that the Governor’s style of administration was what the people of the state were yearning for, insisting that Kwande people would not accept anything capable of dividing them and would deny them the governorship when the time eventually ripes.
He insisted that Governor Alia was executing people oriented projects and no one should do anything capable of derailing him, pointing out the projects being executed in agriculture, road construction, payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity among other things have to do a lot with public confidence.
The group according to their spokesman called on the sons and daughters of Kwande to support Governor Alia to end successfully to enable the people of Kwande take over in 2031.
The Kwande people, comprising the inhabitants of Kwande and Ushongo local government areas, represent a significant intermediate group within the Tiv land. Traditionally, this group holds considerable influence and is often given due consideration when sharing positions.
