A 43-year-old man has been ordered to remain in custody by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court following allegations that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl with a physical disability in the Ikotun area of Lagos.
Presiding Magistrate L.A. Owolabi directed that the accused, identified as Ifeanyi Paul, be held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre while the case is reviewed by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The matter has been adjourned until October 22 pending legal advice.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on July 24 at the defendant’s residence. He was reportedly apprehended by members of the community who handed him over to the police.
The charge brought against him falls under Section 261 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015, which pertains to sexual offences.
Due to the nature of the case, details identifying the survivor have been withheld in line with legal and ethical standards.
