A fresh political wave has hit Kano as 774 members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) crossed over to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring confidence in the ruling party’s direction and development agenda.
The defectors were formally received on Friday in Rimin Gado Local Government Area by Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jam’are River Basin Development Authority, who hailed their decision as a step in the right direction.
Describing the new APC members as “lucky,” Bichi insisted the ruling party remains the only platform capable of driving meaningful change nationwide. He pointed to President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing projects in the North as proof of the administration’s commitment.
According to him, over 18 major projects valued in billions of naira have already been completed in Kano State, a development he said reflected the seriousness of the APC-led government. Bichi further noted that federal funds were being regularly released to states for development initiatives but lamented that “some states divert such resources to other sectors.”
He maintained that the Renewed Hope Agenda was beginning to deliver tangible improvements—ranging from economic rebound to enhanced food security supported by federal agricultural programmes.
Bichi assured the newcomers that they would be fully integrated into the party structure and treated as long-standing APC loyalists.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mohammad Karofin-Yashi said their decision was driven by what they see as the APC administration’s “laudable development strides.”
He explained that the group was convinced the ruling party has the capacity to steer both Kano and Nigeria “to greater heights,” adding that more NNPP members would soon join them in defecting to the APC.
Karofin-Yashi pledged to mobilise even more supporters in the weeks ahead.
