Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, Theater Command, have rescued 277 women and children from Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists’ enclaves.
Major General Ken Chigbu, Deputy Theater Commander, disclosed this while handing over the rescued individuals to the Borno State government through the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
The rescue operation, codenamed Operation Desert Sanity-3 and Operation Lake Sanity-2, was carried out around Bama, Dikwa, and Monguno towns in Borno state.
The operations aimed to clear remnant terrorists from their hideouts in the desert and Lake Chad areas of the Northeast.
The rescued individuals, mostly women with children aged six months to ten years, were officially handed over to Borno state government officials for further rehabilitation and reintegration with their families and loved ones.
Some of the women shared their ordeal, including Fatima, 25, who was abducted from Michika, Adamawa state, at the age of 11, and forced to marry a terrorist. Another survivor, Ya Gana Bakura, 22, from Jangu village near Bama town, was also forced to marry a terrorist who was recently killed.
The State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, represented by Hajiya Aishat Shettima, thanked the Nigerian military for their efforts and assured that the rescued individuals will receive proper care and rehabilitation at a specialized center before being reintegrated back into society.
The goal is to provide comprehensive support to help them recover from their traumatic experiences and reintegrate back into their communities. The military’s bravery and dedication have saved lives and restored hope to families.
