The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Women Wing Sub Committee has condemned in strongest terms all behavioural attitudes that are threats to’ the relative peace that is being enjoyed in the state.
The committee also called for maturity, responsibility patriotism and peaceful co-existence among the citizens of Borno state.
The Borno State Coordinator of the PCRC Women Wing Committee, Hajiya Kaltume Ja’afar, stated this on Friday during a news briefing at the NUJ Press Center Maiduguri.
Hajiys Jàafar said the committee was established in 2022 with the mandate of bringing police and the public together to promote and consolidate peace and unity in the society.
She said it was aimed at enabling the society ‘to form informal security outfits, to bridge the socio-psychological gab between the police and the general public, assist in curbing crimes in the society, educate, enlighten and mobilize women in the society and support community policing agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Coordinator noted that part of the mandate is to strategize on the role women play in peace building, most especially , the vantage position and experience of women and youths in public engagement, advocacy, enlightenment, sensitisation and awareness campaigns to prevent negativities of youths exuberance, crime prevention, drug abuse, hooliganism, vandalism and thuggery.
According to her, “The Women Wing Committee is a Non Governmental, non-religious and non-profit Making body. It is an organization that consists of communities and many other key agencies as well as a Gender Desk for Gender Based Violence (GBV), especially, rape, girl child abuse, girl child , thuggery, and girl child trafficking among others.
”Consequently, concerted efforts are being made by INGOS, local NGOs , Governments at all levels, the security agencies, well meaning individuals, philanthropists as well as religious organizations to rebuild confidence and restore lost hope amongst the people.
”Beside, several billions of naira were invested by the state government to rebuild destroyed homes in order to resettle the people”.
”The Borno state women of the police community committee hereby enjoins all Borno indigenes and all residents from every works of life and from every tribe both indigenous and non–indigenous to promote peace and love, to support the police and all other security agencies, in the onerous task to return Borno to its once peaceful State.
” The business of all and sundry is to tell us how to achieve peace in Borno, end poverty, boost the economy of the state and develop strategies that can lead us to the path of progress and prosperity”, she said.
