Police arrest 70-year old man for raping 12-year old in Bauchi

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –

The Bauchi State Police Command said its operatives have arrested a 70-year old man, Bala Mairiga, for allegedly raping a 12-year old girl in Bauchi.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, who stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Bauchi said the suspect had raped the minor many times.

He said that the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother, adding that he lured the girl to his room where he raped her.

He said: “Sequel to the Command’s commitment in the fight against Gender Base Violence, on the 4th November, 2021 at about 6.30pm, one Farida Adamu of Jahun area Bauchi, reported that on the same date at about 11.40am, a certain Bala Mairiga (70) of the same address lured her daughter, Aisha Isma’il (12) to his room and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.

“The suspect was arrested and during the course of interrogation, he confessed to the crime, where he confirmed to have sexually abused the victim (Murjanatu) not real name on five different occasions.”

According to him, investigation into the matter is ongoing after which, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.

Others arrested for armed robbery, thuggery

Wakil, a Superintendent of Police, added that on 9th November, 2021 at about 9.00pm, credible information was received from a good Samaritan, that a group of hoodlums had perfected plans to attack Unguwan Karofin Madaki and Kofar Dumi axis and unleash mayhem.

He said that the Rapid Respond Squad (RRS) of the Command swiftly moved into action and arrested eight suspects including six teenagers.

He gave the names of the suspects to include: Saidu Bala (18) of Karofi, Abdulkadir Muhammad (15) of Tsamiyan Gardawa, Imrana Muhammed (20) of Karofi, Abdulbaki Sunusi Abdullahi (14), also of Karofi.

Others, according to him, are: Abdulkarim Usman (20) of Tsamiyan Gardawa, Ibrahim Sabo (18) also of Tsamiyan Gardawa, Muhammad Mahmud (15) of Karofi and Abubakar Muhammand (15) of Unguwan Master, all residents of Bauchi.

He said that upon their arrest, one knife and seven machetes were recovered in their possession adding that the case is currently being investigated and will be charged to court afterwards.

The Command’s Spokesman added that: “On the 12th October, 2021 at about 1.00am, hoodlums stormed the house of one Alhaji Abu Dawai (70) of Diwa Village, shot him and made away with his Bajaj motorcycle.

“Upon receipt of this information, Police team swung into action and tracked down one Ardo Kabiru Diwa (40) of Diwa village. The suspect was arrested and the motorcycle recovered.”

He said that investigation is still on and suspect will be charged to court.

Wakil stated that the task of securing lives and properties “has not been an easy one but it remains our duty for which we shall not relent.”

He said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sylvester Alabi, “calls on the good people of the State to offer their support by continuously assisting with relevant information that will aid the Police in policing the state better. “
