Rep. Joseph Nwobasi, representing Ezza-North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State
A Member of the House of Representatives, Joseph Nwobasi, representing Ezza-North/Ishielu Federal Constituency in Ebonyi State, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Nwobasi made the announcement at the Ezza-North council headquarters on Sunday, citing his desire to support President Bola Tinubu and Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“I believe Governor Nwifuru is truly the people’s governor,” Nwobasi said. “His empowerment initiatives and infrastructural projects have been outstanding. We want to join forces with the President and especially Governor Nwifuru to build a better state and Nigeria.”
The defection was accompanied by Kevin Okeh of the State House of Assembly. The Ezza-North Local Government Chairman, Chief Moses Ogodo-Ali, stated that the defection demonstrated the people’s resolve to support Nwifuru’s 2027 re-election bid. “Our people have agreed that no Ezza man or woman will contest the 2027 governorship. Governor Nwifuru is our sole candidate.”
The APC Chairman in Ebonyi, Chief Stanley Okoro-Emegha, welcomed Nwobasi and his supporters, urging them to conduct themselves properly and respect existing party members. “Avoid creating factions. The party will not tolerate divisive behaviour in any form.”
