Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai
By HARUNA AHMED, Kaduna –
Social Democratic Party (SDP) has publicly distanced itself from former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, asserting that he is neither a member nor authorized to represent or speak on behalf of the party.
In a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna, Inuwa Idris, the SDP Zonal Secretary for the North-West Zone, clarified the party’s position.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai has been appearing at various events, including policy dialogues and private strategy meetings, falsely claiming to represent the SDP,” Idris stated.
“We unequivocally declare that he has no mandate, authorization, or recognition from the SDP to act in any capacity on our behalf.”
Idris emphasized that El-Rufai’s actions were undertaken without the knowledge or consent of the party’s national leadership, including Acting National Chairman Dr. Sadiq Umar, National Secretary Chief Olu Agunloye, and 2023 presidential candidate Prince Adewole Adebayo.
“El-Rufai is not listed in our membership records, has never participated in our programs, and holds no appointment to speak for the SDP,” he added.
The zonal secretary urged stakeholders and the public to disregard any statements or actions attributed to El-Rufai under the SDP’s banner.
He stressed that the party maintains a transparent system for delegation and official communication, and only endorsed representatives—whose identities are available upon request—are authorized to engage in policy discussions or collaborative initiatives.
Idris also addressed concerns involving Dr. Umar Ardo, announcing his immediate suspension from the SDP for promoting a new political party, ADA, while misusing the SDP platform.
“We pass a vote of no confidence in Malam Nasiru El-Rufai and warn both individuals to cease their fraudulent activities,” Idris declared.
“Any further impersonation will prompt the National Executive Committee to form a special committee to investigate and publicize their misdeeds across all platforms.
”The SDP reaffirmed its commitment to transparent leadership under Dr. Sadiq Umar and called for vigilance to protect the party’s integrity.
