National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the expulsion of its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and several other key officials for what it described as gross misconduct and breaches of the party’s constitution.
The decision was made public on Thursday in Abuja during an NWC meeting presided over by the Acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, said the expelled officials were found guilty of misconduct, misappropriation, and serious constitutional violations.
Aiyenigba recalled that on June 24, 2025, the NWC had suspended three national officers — Gabam, former National Youth Leader Mr. Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and former National Auditor Mr. Clarkson Nnadi — pending the outcome of investigations into allegations of administrative and financial mismanagement.
“To ensure fairness, the NWC inaugurated a disciplinary committee on July 4, 2025, made up of independent members to investigate the allegations and present an unbiased report,” Aiyenigba explained.
According to him, the committee completed its assignment after two weeks of deliberation and submitted its findings on July 18, 2025, confirming that the suspended officers had indeed violated party rules. It consequently recommended appropriate disciplinary actions.
He added that the NWC subsequently established a subcommittee to draft a white paper based on the report. The document, submitted on August 15, 2025, was later adopted as binding party policy.
Aiyenigba also spoke about a separate incident involving a break-in at the party’s national secretariat at 17 Nairobi Street, Wuse II, Abuja. He said some individuals unlawfully gained access to the premises on July 28, 2025, and were apprehended by security operatives with stolen documents and party property.
“The intruders, identified as Adamu Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Shuaibu, are currently being prosecuted in court,” he revealed.
Following the findings and reports, the NWC resolved that Gabam be formally removed as National Chairman, effective immediately, citing “gross misconduct.”
Aiyenigba further announced that Uchechukwu had also been expelled from the party and relieved of his position as National Youth Leader for similar constitutional violations.
Meanwhile, Nnadi, who had earlier tendered his resignation as National Auditor through a formal letter addressed to the Acting Chairman, had his resignation accepted by the NWC.
The committee also decided to expel the eight individuals involved in the unlawful invasion of the secretariat.
“The NWC has resolved to fully implement the recommendations contained in the white paper to strengthen administrative safeguards and enhance internal party governance,” Aiyenigba said.
He added that all resolutions were unanimously adopted, stressing that the SDP remains committed to discipline, accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.
